Evian les Bains

We stopped off for an hour or so in Evian Les Bains whilst driving back home from the U.K. to France. We were glad to get out of the car and stretch our legs. We had a brisk walk along the water front as it was too cold to dawdle, but we were still overtaken by several pensioners, they sure walk fast! As with Aix Les Bains, Evian Les Bains is a spa resort and unless you are there for some spa pleasures then there is not much else to see or do. There were plenty of people walking along the waterfront enjoying the air like us. The town is famous for mineral water which is bottled at Amphion 3km along the lakeside. However the Source Cachet still flows behind the Evian company's gorgeous Art Nouveau offices, with it's coloured glass, wood, and patterned tiles. You can help yourself to the spring water, and we saw lots of people doing just that. As we walked along the waterfront we saw beautiful squares of pristine green grass and colourful flower beds along with exotic trees. There was also mini golf, and little cafes with outside seating areas, the whole area was so clean. There are ferries running from Evian Les Bains to other towns around the including Lausanne and Geneva.

Evian is situated north of the department of Haute Savoie , on the south bank of Lake Geneva, opposite Switzerland.

The town (7,500 inhabitants) is built in tiers at the edge of the lake (altitudes of 370m/725m), standing against the massif of the Alpine foreland of Chablais.

Evian profits from spectacular surroundings between lake and mountains which have given it its renown as an international tourist resort. (Spa and health resort, holiday resort, Congress town, etc.).

Birthplace of Natural Mineral Water known throughout the world, Evian has preserved and used its architectural heritage to its best advantage and presents to its visitors the image of a welcoming and dynamic city.
