Villeneuve Les Corbieres

Villeneuve les Corbieres is a small village with about 200 inhabitants. It is on the D611 a very scenic road that twists and turns through many similar small villages. There is not much in Villeneuve les Corbieres but it does have a Distri-Cabanel which is part of a chain of small grocery shops which sells almost everything food and drink wise. There is also a small bar restaurant called Le Corbierou run by a very friendly family which serves good food and drink and has some outside seating, although the seating is right on the main road which does get surprisingly busy with passing traffic. There is also a post office and another shop selling part DIY part electrical goods. As with many of the villages on this road it is more about the journey than the arrival, but it is still worth a little wander around on a sunny day. Villeneuve Les Corbieres is only 45 minutes from the beaches and makes a good base to explore Cathar country. There are over a dozens castles all within one hours drive of Villeneuve Les Corbieres. There are Gites to rent in the village that can be booked on gitesdefrance.fr website. Villeneuve Les Corbieres makes a great base to explore this region of France. Far enough away from the coast to be quiet and relaxing but close enough that everything is only a short drive away. Perpignan airport is only one hour away and has daily flights to the U.K. Toulouse is just over two hours away, B.A. and Air France both fly to/from there.
